15 March, Pune, India -- Friends of Children (FoC) is a non-profit organization formed in 2003 by a group of individuals. Their objective is to facilitate a better economic future for underprivileged children, by sponsoring the higher education of deserving students. This would give them a strong foundation to earn their livelihood.
The organization does not have any salaried employees or office space, and is fully managed by volunteers. With no overhead costs, all funds raised are used for the children’s needs.
FoC supports higher education for more than 400 students across the state through its Nurture Merit Program. Working to make underprivileged youth employable, the NGO empowers students to pursue certification in Engineering, Education, Commercial Applications and Science. Extentia, a Pune based global technology services company, has been associated with FoC since 2006. The company celebrated its anniversary recently, and on the occasion, Extentia made a donation to FoC to fund a Residential Youth Camp for sixty students in May 2010. Extentia supports FoC’s work toward providing underprivileged youth an opportunity to earn a sustainable livelihood. Funds are typically allocated by Friends of Children for:

School/college and tuition fees. Regular monitoring and career guidance. Guidance and Educative sessions on weekends. Books and other stationery. Mentoring and Teaching. Health check-ups. Funding for vocational courses.
FOC sponsors higher education as well as vocational education for meritorious students after their initial school years. At this time, they accept applications for support from students in class 10 and above.
