The 7 Layers of Metaverse and How They Can Change Our Future

The world of Metaverse defies easy description. It is a world that is rapidly evolving, expanding in its contours, and often it is offering the world its new and innovative use-cases. However, entrepreneur Jon Radoff, an author, and a game designer has segregated the Metaverse world into seven layers. These seven layers of the Metaverse comprehensively encompass the past, present, and future possibilities, and the resultant ecosystem of modern technology.

Layers of Metaverse

Let us dive in deep and unpack the Metaverse layers one by one,

1. Experience The Metaverse offers a dematerialized version of our reality, and in many cases, it creates worlds that are a significant and exciting alteration of our existence. Worlds seen and unseen, mirroring reality or conjured from imagination, are all a part of the Metaverse. All the primary constraints of our physical worlds are lifted, and one enters a new dimension.

Across the globe, when the pandemic and the accompanying lockdown descended on us, concerts were held without people leaving the comfort of their homes. These massive interactive live events were hugely successful and forebode a complete re-imagination of how people will attend social events and interact with each other in the future.

2. Discovery

The discovery is being brought about via two different mechanisms. One is inbound discovery, which is when people come in search of information and content in this virtual world. The other is outbound discovery when people are informed, and information regarding the Metaverse is supplied even when they might not be looking for it.

The idea of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) took off in 2021. It worked wonders in advancing and propagating the idea of what the Metaverse is and how it will change the dynamics of monetary exchange in the future. Other examples include Twitter which recently opened its portals to allow participants to interact live with each other via audio or Spotify, which permitted users to have a peek at what those in their social network are listening to. 3. The emergence of the creator economy

Metaverse is dependent on coders and programmers who design and create new worlds. However, innovations and evolving Metaverse technological processes are ensuring that coding can now be performed by newbies who do not have to pore over brain-numbing coding courses. In the future, more people will be able to wield advanced tools that will help them create new Metaverse worlds of their choice.

Similarly, people will be able to create a mark for themselves by dint of their content creation in the future. Millions of content creators on social media apps are making a name for themselves. The Metaverse will follow in the same way. 4. Spatial mapping

Spatial mapping involves the merging of real and virtual worlds. Spatial mapping tools allow us to digitize the real world we inhabit and turn it into a 3D replica. This world can be further enhanced or changed by us as we wish. Microsoft HoloLens and Snapchat’s Landmarker are notable examples of tools used for digitizing our realities. They are not available at economical rates, but we will find the technology increasingly affordable as time and technology progresses. The wildly popular game Pokémon Go is one instance where the Metaverse made an entry into the lives of millions and stayed there for a long time.

5. Decentralization

Metaverse will have no single authority ruling or dictating over it. It will be truly decentralized, and in any world, creators will be able to claim a sovereign right over their creative work and digital products. Other facets like blockchain-based payments and open-source platforms will further support and strengthen the decentralization underpinning Metaverse. As the Metaverse penetrates deeper, a scalable ecosystem will aid entrepreneurs and businesses in offering far more varied and niche digital products. 6. Human interface

You have seen movies from the Iron Man franchise and the new-age technology at play in the film. That utopian world could soon become our reality. With the use of spatial computing technologies coupled with a human interface, we will be able to map out our surroundings, gather intel on them and create 3D digitized versions of them.

Further, more profound research is underfoot on the interaction between brains and computers with a specialized focus on biosensors and our neural interfaces. With the help of technology, it is possible to relay the sensory experience of what it is to touch something even when we are not feeling it with our own hands. 7. Infrastructure

Our digital infrastructure will transform diametrically for the Metaverse world to become a reality. Without 5G and 6G computing, Metaverse would remain a distant dream. The emergence of these technologies will help accelerate our network speeds exponentially and dramatically reduce network latency.

The power of Metaverse is evident from the massive number of companies that are becoming acutely interested in the prospects of this paradigm-altering world. Several big tech names like Alphabet, Meta, Adobe, Microsoft, Apple, and many others are already funneling large troves of money into the Metaverse ventures to bag a piece of the future Metaverse market. As a part of the Metaverse blog series, we will talk about the examples of today and future Metaverse applications in the blog. Stay Tuned!
